There is no single points system that fits every league. What matters is that the system matches the format and is published before the first fixture.
Common approaches
- Match points: award a fixed number for a team win, with an optional draw value.
- Game or leg points: count the individual games won inside a team match.
- Points for and against: preserve the score margin for a later tie-breaker.
- Bonuses: use attendance, high finishes or other bonuses only when the rules define them clearly.
Keep the primary ranking field simple. If a player cannot explain why one team is above another, the table needs a label or a rules link. Never add a surprise bonus halfway through the season to solve a tie.
Choose tie-breakers before you need them
Write the sequence as a numbered rule. For example: primary match points, then head-to-head result, then game difference, then points for, then a deciding match if the league still cannot separate the teams. Your league may choose a different sequence. The important part is that captains can find it before playoffs.
How to keep live league standings accurate
A live table is only useful when players know what “live” means. Decide whether results appear immediately after approval, at a nightly cutoff or on a weekly publication schedule. Then make the same checkpoint part of every match-night routine.
- Open the scheduled fixture and confirm the teams, date and board.
- Record the result on the paper sheet or digital match record.
- Review the match total with both teams and an authorized scorekeeper.
- Approve the fixture once, so it cannot be counted twice.
- Recalculate points, game results and player statistics from the approved record.
- Publish the table with the last-updated time.
For a paper-first league, keep the original X01 score sheet. For photographed sheets, use assisted scanning as a reviewable draft, not an invisible replacement for the record.
Make corrections without losing trust
Every league eventually finds a misspelled player, a wrong game total or a result entered against the wrong fixture. The correction policy should be calmer than the mistake.

- Record what changed and why it changed.
- Limit approval to the owner or designated administrator.
